She’s an Oscar nominee! Mikey Madison’s press tour for Anora has also been a bit of a campaign trail for elegant, ladylike dressing. Styled by Jamie Mizrahi, Madison has opted for powder blue tweeds, Chanel suiting, and dreamier color palettes for red carpet gowns by way of Miu Miu and Prada—always, with a youthful twist like a fun shoe or accessory.
But it’s Madison’s hair that proved Oscar-worthy on her most recent outing. The actor was photographed outside CBS Studios yesterday (January 23) in New York City, with her long brunette hair in dreamy, soft Hollywood waves.
Her hair was styled by Rena Calhoun, who is a deft hand at leading lady hair: from a chic chignon on Hunter Schafer to Baby Reindeer’s Nava Mau’s sleek bob.
Her beauty was by Melissa Hernandez—an MUA regularly called upon by Olivia Rodrigo and Lili Reinhart for their soft and sweet toned looks. Madison kept to her usual: a light pink lip, smoked out eyeliner, and a flush of blush.
Madison’s outfit meant business: she wore a black suit with an oversized coat, a crisp white shirt, and a textured black tie. She wore Holly Golightly-esque, oversized oval sunglasses, and carried a black clutch. It’s a much more masculine look than we’re used to seeing her in, but it still incorporated all of Madison’s sophisticated femme touches. Earlier in the day, she stepped out in a powder-blue, tweed Patou set, t-bar Ferragamo heels, and St. Agni’s shell clutch bag. Her hair was blowdried straight and glossy.
As exotic dancer Ani in Anora, Madison’s brunette lengths shimmer with pink and purple tinsel. The film’s hair department head Justine Sierakowski talked in detail to Vogue about building the character out with Madison and director Sean Baker through her striking visual aesthetics. Hair was tantamount to her character development: Ani’s introduction as the bold and beguiling club dancer with glittering straight hair, to “playing wifey” with more curled and polished tresses, getting bigger and wilder in Vegas, and more lank and flat as she traipses to find her husband on the run with her rag-tag crew of Russian heavies.
Across her red carpets, luncheons, and engagements for Anora, Madison has leaned into classic, feminine hair and classic beauty. For the Gotham Awards, she kept her hair in a sleek bun, emphasizing her more dramatic cat-eye and cut-out Schiaparelli look. For the Golden Globes—and as Matthieu Blazy’s last Bottega Veneta girl in a shimmering gold strapless gown—her long brown hair was lifted into a side part, with super soft waves.
Anora has received six nominations at this year Oscars, also including Best Picture, Best Original Screenplay, Best supporting Actor, and Best Director.
The campaign trail and awards-worthy beauty continues.
