As Donald Trump takes his oath of office to become the 47th President of the United States and begin his second tenure, politicians, the Trump clan, tech titans et al have arrived at the US Capitol Rotunda in Washington, D.C. to bear witness. While the pre-inauguration events across the weekend showcased MAGA fashion at its most glitzy and coiffed, the inauguration ceremony itself presented some conservative looks.
Some of the women in attendance opted for suits: Kamala Harris went monochromatic in a black suit and overcoat, Hillary Clinton chose a Democrat blue Stella McCartney power suit, and Priscilla Chan, Mark Zuckerberg’s wife, wore a pale blue skirt suit with a large double strand of pearls. But Lauren Sánchez opted for a daring take on the classic pantsuit, choosing a white, tailored Alexander McQueen blazer and pant set, exposing her white lacy bra. It certainly takes the suffragette white into an interesting new era.
Sánchez previously wore the suit to The New York Times DealBook event in December. “Winter white,” she captioned a mirror selfie in the look at the time.
She once again wore her hair up in a loose bun with two curled, face-framing strands, and kept jewelry minimal.
For the previous evening’s pre-inauguration dinner, Sánchez wore a black Dolce & Gabbana dress with a sweetheart neckline and crystal corset.
What comes to mind is the dress that Jackie Kennedy wore to the 1961 inauguration gala—a strapless and sleeveless off-white gown with a sheer silk top layer that covered an encrusted strapless bodice, embroidered with silver. Kennedy collaborated with designer Ethel Frankau for the look, which was accessorized with a matching cape and elbow-length gloves. The gala outfit was one of many examples of Kennedy’s role as a decades-spanning fashion icon, but it was also a light easing into an era of then-quite daring, strapless silhouettes. Here, Sánchez makes another sartorial swing for the décolletage.
